Summer camp week 2

Dessert

We made beaches in a cup. Vanilla pudding. Crushed graham cracker for sand and gummy fish. Jake likes choc pudding better. I guess he likes dirt better. Ha

Moody

Tonight haley you were so good. You felt upset and you didn't know why and you went to your room. You came back later and said I don't know why but I'm moody and grumpy maybe hormonal. I said good job for identifying you were grumpy and leaving us alone. Ha. Hope you can continue doing that.

So fun to plan lettuce and then pick it from the garden and make your own salad!! 🥗

Bike ride with daddy

Getting out a little today. Starting to feel better.
Love seeing smiles on their faces. And being kids!

It's hard that they have to learn so young that we can't always keep them safe and that there are not so nice people.

Today

Today I think we will take it easy again. Canceling plans and letting them play and continue to feel safe. Learning to play together and be nice. Not letting people get us down.

Jake said he already knew there was ugliness in the world like trump. But to see it up close and personal is sometimes hard.

I hear ya jake. He's had a rough year. A girl told him he was going to hell because he was Jewish. He got choked for trying to stop another kid from getting choked. Haley too. Got made fun of for little things. Her freckles. Her hair. And they both had things said to them about how they ruin things because they have allergies or they can't be invited some where because they have allergies. ☹️

They have quick come backs like Jesus was Jewish. Or why are you looking at me so closely. But it still hurts. They do a good job being tough and not letting too much get to them.

The other day they said they wish they weren't different. I told them our super power is weeding out the mean people. We find out right away who they are.

Because we are different. We are Asian Jews who are short and strong willed. We don't want to be like everyone else. We don't want to always go with the crowd.

But I still wish that you didn't have to hear such things and we didn't need these talks.

You both have managed to have found great caring friends. Who are also diverse and who are kind and thoughtful.

The break from school is nice and getting to spend time with the people we love has been nice.

Bacon on a stick

A good treat

to the guy who threw a peanut at my child

to the guy who threw a peanut at my child last night

you were sitting behind my son and daughter and throwing shells. they were both getting a little nervous. we knew coming to the game there might be a chance of peanuts around us. we were prepared. we weren't naive. but we were hoping that most of oak park and their families were in our area that there wouldn't be a lot of peanut eating kids. but there was you. you were maybe late 60s. my parents ages. i turned around and asked politely if you could please stop throwing shells because both of our kids were allergic. mike was out getting food. but we were surrounded by friends. you didn't like the confrontation. and i know i have no right in telling you what you can and can't eat as a grown man, but i can ask kindly for the safety of my children to respect us and not throw shells. so then you react by throwing a shelled peanut at the back of my son. he has been all about baseball for two months and was so excited for this game with his friends. and this one little nut scared him and your response scared him and showed him the ugliness in this world. he wanted to go home. i wouldn't let you control that. i refuse to. luckily your wife saved you before i jumped over those seats and did something i regretted. she grabbed that bag and apologized for you being an ass. she said of course he will stop eating them and that was a horrible joke. like we were going to laugh. i had no words. but was so grateful for her because i'm sure security would have kicked me out.

jake was still nervous. we wiped the seats and switched rows with people. but we couldn't enjoy the game. we got him treats like cotton candy and bacon on a stick. but he was still nervous and so was haley. rightfully so. and i thought there might literally be steam coming out of my ears. we stayed a bit longer, but we had to go.

we got home wiped our shoes. stripped our clothes down and put them in a bag as if we were part of a crime scene. and then showered off. the kids were still a bit worried. i stayed in their room on the floor.

a few hours later they were both up sick. damn you. damn allergies. damn peanuts. i know it's not just your fault. i'm sure there was someone else eating nuts and the dust was in the air. but i blame assholes like you. a guy in front of us was going to eat peanuts and i asked the same thing kindly to be careful because my kids had allergies and his response renewed some faith in humans for a bit and showed my children kindness. he was like of course it is totally not worth the risk and i'll just eat them later and share with my family. he was so nice. and made my kids feel safe.

but having them both up sick i felt helpless and horrible. i failed to protect my children and keep them safe. i can't blame just this man. this was the first time they hated their allergies and jake hated baseball. i was furious. after benadryl and many flushes their stomachs calmed down and hopefully it was mostly out of their systems. now this is not from ingesting anything this is just from being around it. this is what i hate. they see rude people they can't have a happy go lucky childhood without care. i hate that.

so today we stayed home and they were happy doing origami and playing with a big cardboard box. being kids. what they should be doing. being in a safe place which i wish i could always provide. being with people who love them and care about them. being.

so to the man who threw the peanut at my child. i hope you know it might take time but we will not let you ruin baseball for us and i'm sad for you. i'm sad that you could be so thoughtless to children who obviously were scared to sit next to you. that as a grown man who had 60 some years of experiences still responded the way you did. to that man - thank you for teaching my kids how to not respond. how to be better people.

we will not let you get to us. yes i was angry for quite some time but now i will just feel sorry for you. i'm glad my kids are safe now and you are lucky your wife has some sense.

ps this is my rant and know that i do not proof or check grammar...this is how i feel.
